The Acting Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Ridwan Disu, has assumed duty as the 23rd indigenous Inspector-General of Police, taking over from Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, who served as the 22nd IGP from June 19, 2023, to February 24, 2026.

Disu’s appointment follows the retirement of Egbetokun, whose tenure was marked by efforts toward institutional reforms and modernization within the Nigeria Police Force.

Born on April 13, 1966, Disu hails from Lagos Island Local Government Area of Lagos State. He holds multiple academic qualifications, including a Master’s degree in Entrepreneurship from the National Open University of Nigeria (2023), a Master’s in Criminology, Security and Legal Psychology from Lagos State University (2022), and a Master’s in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University (2010). He also earned a Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Strategic Studies and a Bachelor’s degree in English (Education) from Lagos State University.

Disu joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992. Over the past three decades, he has held several strategic operational and administrative positions across the country.

Until his appointment, he served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Alagbon, Lagos.

His previous postings include Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Special Protection Unit at Force Headquarters, Abuja; Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command; Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Command; Commissioner of Police, Administration and Intelligence, Force Intelligence Bureau; and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team.

He also served as Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, between 2015 and 2021, among other roles in Ondo, Oyo, Rivers, and Katsina states, as well as at the Nigerian Police Academy, Kano.

On the international front, Disu led the first Nigerian Police contingent to the African Union Mission in Sudan in 2005, deployed to address the Darfur crisis.

Beyond policing, he has been actively involved in sports administration, serving as National Chairman of the Nigeria Police Judo Association. A third-degree black belt holder in Judo, he won a silver medal at the 2022 U.S. Open Judo Championships.

The Nigeria Police Force expressed appreciation to the immediate past IGP for his contributions to the growth and strengthening of the institution.

Disu has pledged to consolidate ongoing reforms, enhance internal security operations, strengthen community partnerships, and uphold global best practices in the protection of lives and property.

The Force also called for continued public support and cooperation under the new leadership.
